Do I need brakes on my pontoon trailer?

Brakes are always better than no brakes on a pontoon boat trailer.

Small pontoon boats and short trips require brakes much less than large pontoon boats and long trips. Some states have requirements for brakes on certain size trailers, for instance Connecticut requires brakes on all trailers rated for 3,000 lbs or more. If you have a dual axle trailer rated for 3,000 lbs or more in CT you will be required to have brakes on both axles. In any case larger boats being towed at highway speeds should always have brakes.
